Panel Presentation - Friday:
Celebrating 20 years of Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing Accomplishments
The 2015 CFMHN National Conference offers a unique opportunity to celebrate advances, accomplishments and innovations in psychiatric, mental health and addictions nursing. This year represents the 20th anniversary of CNA Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Certification in Canada and we represent one of the largest groups of CNA-certified specialty nurses in the country. In addition the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Regulators of Canada (RPNRC) recently celebrated the validation and release of the National Entry-Level Competencies for Registered Psychiatric Nurses in Western Canada – another milestone of achievement in our area of nursing specialization. Yet, have we optimized all opportunities for advancement of our specialization? Do we have common goals across the nation? Are Psychiatric/Mental Health nurses positioned for leadership in the health care system of tomorrow?
This panel presentation will explore important milestones and the unique issues, challenges and opportunities of our nursing specialty in diverse and evolving Canadian mental health and addictions health care environments. Various Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing leadership viewpoints will be presented. Conference participants will have an opportunity to engage with the stakeholder panelists in a discussion of local, provincial and national challenges and opportunities impacting our nursing specialty.
